Introducing Blink Labs

Today we're introducing Blink Labs. We make everyday electronics smarter: we develop learning software for consumer devices like smart home gadgets, toys, and entry-level robots, helping them understand their surroundings and respond to the people using them.

Why now

The devices in our homes are packed with sensors, speakers, and motors, but most of them still follow a fixed script. A smart speaker waits for an exact phrase. A toy plays the same routine no matter who is holding it. A home robot bumps into the same chair every day. The hardware can sense the world; the software rarely learns from it.

Learning-based models have changed what software can do on servers and in the cloud. We think the same shift is coming to the devices people actually live with, and that it will matter most for the cheapest and most common ones, not only for expensive flagship products.

What we're building

We build models that learn from what a device sees, hears, and does, and that run on the device itself. That means designing for cheap, low-power chips from the start: small enough to fit on a microcontroller or an edge chip, fast enough to react in real time, and efficient enough to run on a battery.

Software alone isn't enough. Getting a model to work well on a shipped product means owning the full stack, from the circuit board and firmware to the on-device runtime and the models running on top. Our work spans all of it, so that a better model actually shows up as a better product in someone's hands.

Who we are

We are a small group of engineers, scientists, and company builders working across machine learning, hardware, and embedded software. We're based in Brooklyn, New York, and we're grateful for the support of investors including Thrive Capital and Redpoint Ventures.
